At MedicinesExplained.com, we take your privacy seriously. This page explains what kind of data we collect, how we use it, and your rights as a visitor or user of our site.
Who We Are
Our website address is: https://www.medicinesexplained.com. We’re a content-based health education site aiming to make medical knowledge easier for everyone to understand.
Comments
If you leave a comment on any of our posts, we collect the data you type into the comment form, plus your IP address and browser info. This helps us fight spam and keep the site clean.
Your email (if you add one) might be used to check against the Gravatar profile service to display your profile picture next to your comment. You can read more about their privacy rules here: https://automattic.com/privacy.
Once your comment is approved, it becomes public—along with the name and image you provided (if any).
Uploading Media
Uploading images? Try not to upload photos that contain GPS or location data. People can download images and extract that data if it’s there, and we can’t stop them once it’s public.
Cookies
We use cookies. Just a few, mostly to make your visit smoother.
If you comment on the site, you can choose to save your name, email, and site in cookies. That way, you won’t have to fill in your info again the next time. These cookies stick around for about a year.
If you log in (if login is enabled), we’ll also use cookies to remember your session and display settings. Most of those expire in a couple of days, except display preference ones, which last a year. If you click “Remember Me,” your login stays for two weeks. Log out, and those cookies go away.
If you edit or publish content on the site, another cookie might be set that keeps track of the post ID — no personal data there, and it’s gone in 24 hours.
Content from Other Sites
Sometimes we embed content — videos, images, or articles — from other websites. When we do, it’s just like you visited those other websites directly.
Those sites might track your activity, collect data, drop cookies, or monitor how you interact with their embedded stuff. This is especially true if you’re logged in to those platforms.
Who We Share Data With
If you ever request a password reset, your IP address may be included in the reset email for security reasons.
How Long We Keep Your Data
When you leave a comment, we keep it—and the information linked to it—forever. That helps us automatically approve any future comments you might leave, instead of holding them in moderation every time.
If you register on our website (if that’s an option), we store the details you provide in your user profile. You can view, edit, or delete your data whenever you want—except for the username, which is fixed. Site admins can also see and edit that information.
Your Data Rights
You can ask us to send you a copy of any personal data we’ve collected about you. You can also request we erase it completely—unless we’re legally required to keep some of it (for safety, administration, or law purposes).
Where Your Data Goes
Any comments you leave may be run through an automated spam detection system. That’s just part of keeping our platform clean and safe for everyone.
